PokeBonk Bulbasaur is the first stage of the Grass line and one of the three starters of PokeBonk, the free browser game by Charcher. This PokeBonk Bulbasaur page collects what the game’s own files say about it: the passive, the first Ultimate, the type matchups and the expected evolution level. PokeBonk.gg is an unofficial fan site, and the official game is at pokebonk.com.
PokeBonk Bulbasaur at a glance
- Pokédex number 1, types Grass and Poison, role “Healer”.
- Base stats from the data file: HP 45, Attack 49, Defense 49, Sp. Atk 65, Sp. Def 65, Speed 45 (total 318).
- Move kit: Vine Whip, Razor Leaf, Sleep Powder and Solar Beam, all Grass. The game code starts a run with the first move of the kit, so PokeBonk Bulbasaur opens with Vine Whip.
The Synthesis passive
The data file lists Overgrow as Bulbasaur’s ability, but the game code uses the League passive whenever a Pokémon has one, so Synthesis is what applies. It gives +1.5 regeneration and +25% healing, and your Grass attacks heal you for 0.4% of your maximum HP per hit, up to five times per second. By simple arithmetic that is at most 2% of your HP per second from the hit effect alone. This is why PokeBonk Bulbasaur is labeled a Healer.
Furious Roots, the tier 1 Ultimate
Every evolution line has its own Ultimate with one tier per stage. At stage 1, PokeBonk Bulbasaur has Furious Roots: six thorny roots burst from the ground in a star shape and root everything they cross. The healing sun ray first appears with Ivysaur as Frenzy Plant, and the flower attack with Venusaur as Giga Flower Whip. You trigger the Ultimate with R once it is charged.
PokeBonk Bulbasaur matchups
The game code applies x1.35 to a super-effective type, x0.8 to a resisted type and x0.5 to a classic immunity, then limits damage you take to between x0.5 and x1.6. For Grass/Poison that gives:
- x1.35 from Flying, Fire, Psychic and Ice.
- x1.08 from Poison, Ground and Bug, because the two types partly cancel.
- x0.8 from Fighting, Water, Electric and Fairy, and x0.64 from Grass.
The full table is on the type chart.
When PokeBonk Bulbasaur evolves
The code derives the first evolution at about level 24, according to the game data and not play-tested. Until then PokeBonk Bulbasaur keeps the tier 1 Ultimate.
How to use PokeBonk Bulbasaur in a run
Verified by the game text: Sleep Powder puts enemies to sleep, and your Grass hits feed the healing passive. A sensible plan, which is our general advice and not a tested build, is to keep Grass moves in your main slots so the passive triggers often. To get it outside the starter pick, complete its challenge (2 runs, win or lose) and capture it when it appears.
